15mm American Civil War fortifications | AVAILABLE NOW! |
This is a selection of our "HOPPIDUS" modular system of fortifications dedicated to the American Civil War (1861–1865). These models are very detailed and accurate reproductions based on period photo and eyewitness drawings, however the same methods of constructions and materials were used for well over a century before and after this war, so you can use them for any conflict from the 18th Century well into the 20th. This range will soon be completed by additional fortification modules, bombproof shelters and camp tents and accessories. Like all our models this is a historically accurate and scaled reproduction with plenty of beautifully sculpted deep surface detail to help you in painting and are made of tough POLYURETHANE. All these fortifications elements are supplied unpainted and don't require assembly. ACW1 - infantry fortifications This pack include four straight elements which are perfect for recreating your own system of field entrenchments or as part of a larger fort or fortified position. All field fortifications since the 18th C. were built basically in the same way: a supporting structure was put up (generally using gabions, but everything suitable on hand was pressed into service) then a trench was dug on the inside and the dirt piled on the outside. It was the dirt that had the stopping power and offered protection, the structure was only a support. As you can see, this is exactly the way these models are made: wattle, gabions, timber, cotton bails and discarded container are all part of the inside structure, while the front is all covered in dirt and the whole thing is topped with fascines and sandbags as prescribed by the manuals. The original structures were often subject to enemy artillery fire and become rapidly covered with debris of all sort, the damaged sections then covered up by new layers of sandbags and dirt as soon as possible, only to be churned all up again by the next barrage… Our models are well researched and this is how the defences usually appear in period drawings and photographs, with loose sandbags and all sort of debris scattered around. You can use the four sections in the pack to create a single continuous line for your troops to defend behind or you can put two sections back to back to make a trench, as shown here. Overall size is 120x20mm (x4 pieces). Does not require assembly. Supplied unpainted. |

GAB2 - Wickerwork gabions This pack include sixteen gabions which are highly detailed and accurately scaled reproductions of the real thing. Gabions were wicker round cages with open tops and bottoms, filled with earth or stones and used to quickly erect a fortification able to offer good protection from increasingly powerful firearms. The wickerwork cylinders were light and could be carried relatively conveniently or even assembled on the site of use in the field. They would always be put up to defend field artillery emplacements and were a fundamental part of any siege line or hastily fortified position. You can use them to create your own set-up or next to our own ACW1 infantry entrenchments or ACW2 artillery positions to create corners or curves in a continuous line of fortifications, as shown here. Diameter is 7.5mm, average height is approxiamtely 12mm. Supplied unpainted. |
