Oliviero Berni
Oliviero is the author of most of the artworks on DS, realized
during more than twenty years of activity as professional illustrator.
He is currently living in Milano (Italy) and dedicate himself mainly to
fine art.
BIOGRAPHY
Born in Milan (Italy), where he currently lives and works. From 1952 to
1956 he attend the Art School at Castello Sforzesco and then Brera in Milan.
In the early sixties (1960-65) he completes his artistic training with
studies in the field of abstract-geometrical art at maestro Mario Radice's
Art Studio in Como. During this time he develops his interests in the most
various visual arts. He hold exhibitions in galleries and collaborates
permanently with Fratelli Fabbri publishing Group as art director. In 1973
he paints cover illustrations for the complete series of "I Classici del
Giallo" (Classics of Mistery) published by Arnoldo Mondadori Editore. From
1972 to 198O he holds several personal exhibitions of painting and works
as illustrator. In 1980, thanks to a collective exhibitions of European
illustrators held in Munich, he becomes well known in Germany. Since then
he has been working for various German Publishers: Goldman, Heyne, Hoheneim.
Then, in 1981 he moves to the United States where he paints covers for
the most important American Publishers like Ballantine, Berkley, Bantam,
Dell, Zebra, Warner. During this time of intense work he also realizes
some commissioned portraits. Back to Italy, in 1985, he keeps collaborating
as illustrator and painter with the most prominent publishers, both italian
and foreigner. He continues his activity as painter of portraits and others
favourite subjects.
Daniela Veluti
Daniela is the author of most of the naturalistic pictures, and she
is the wife of Oliviero. She too is currently living in Milano and dedicate
herself mainly to fine art.
BIOGRAPHY
Daniela Veluti Born in Milan (Italy), where she live and work. She had
a master at the Superior Art School at Castello Sforzesco. During the sixties
she enter Oliviero Berni studio where she specialize in naturalistic illustration.
She found in the publishers market an expressive space open to her experimenting
feel: she realise illustrations for book covers, fiction, literature, children's
books, school books and scientific magazines. Between 1981 and 1985 travel
North America to draw from nature, especially in Canada. Back in Milan
collaborate with the most important Italian publishers realising also illustrations
of fairy tales and teenager fiction for Japanese and Chinese publishers.
Her work in those years tend to express more vigorously her love for the
magic of nature which she consider vitaly important to defend.
Claudio Berni
Claudio is the author of many of the picture you will find in the archives,
as well as the art director and designer of DS itself, and is the
son of Oliviero and Daniela, as you may expect it. He is currently living
in London (UK) and dedicate himself mainly to DS!
BIOGRAPHY
Born in Milan (Italy) on 28st January 1964, after the State Institute of
Arts Diploma - 5 years Design course (60/60), completes his artistic training
at Oliviero Berni's Studio in Milan and with personal studies. Begin collaborating
with graphics studios and publishers since school, then work full time
as visualizer and art director for Gruppo First and then Young Agency.
Six Years as freelance illustrator and graphic designer for advertising
and sales promotion agency, including: Option Italia, The Sales Machine
Italia, Brand X, J &P, Catullo & Sylwan, Promoplay. Also work as
freelance for all the most important italian publishers: Mondadori, Club
degli Editori, Euroclub, Sperling & Kupferl, ecc. Paints cover illustrations
for Harlequin's and Urania Fantasy's series. Since 1992 operate also on
a own Macintosh station, realizing computer graphics, 3D animations, games,
multimedial presentations. He spent a couple of years in London (UK) working
as freelancer illustrator and web designer while collaborating with European
Consulting Group and Dorling Kindersley Multimedia for CD's games projects.
Since then he's living in Cambridge (UK) and is working as lead artist
on various computer games for Creaturelabs.
